Cloth diapering and wondering if you have hard or soft water? Thanks to the cloth diapering discussion page at http://www.babycenter.com/ I just found this great chart of water hardness around the country. (More blue = softer, red = hardest.)
Not sure what to do for your water type? In general, for soft water use less detergent and Rocking Green Hard Rock is a popular choice for hard water, in both cases look for bubbles in your rinse cycle. If they are present, give another rinse and try using less detergent next time. There is A LOT of advice out there about best and worse detergents (my favorite is that top on some lists is bottom on others), but the best advice I've heard is keep using whatever you've been using until (if) you have a problem. Seems like people have great results with just about any kind of detergent so picking what is convenient and in budget sounds like the "right" choice. We're still using up our Charlie's Soap with no problems.
