Bye Bye (Gro)Baby

I really wanted to love the GroBaby diapers. They are well made, come in cute colors and patterns, have organic cotton inserts or the option to use biodegradable inserts, and are supposed to last from nearly newborn to potty training. What I didn't love was the leaking. I just could not get them to fit the little guy correctly and when naps started ending early due to leaking diapers I was done.

Fortunately for my cloth diapering journey, I still had my trial package of diapers from Jillian's Drawers. I had been mixing in the diapers from this package here and there. I had already decided that I really liked the BumGenius 3.0 One Size, Thursties Duo Diaper, and the FuzziBunz Perfect Size Diaper but now it was time to get serious. All three are pocket diapers, which means an absorbent insert is stuffed in a pocket between a fuzzy soft stay dry layer (the part that goes against baby's toosh) and a water proof outer layer. The BumGenius and Thursties are attached with Velcro, making them more similar to disposables. The FuzziBunz have snaps for both the waist and legs providing for a good fit for Jack with his thunder thighs and smaller/average waist. To be honest I could probably be happy with any of the three. All fit well and haven't leaked, even with overnight use. I chose FuzziBunz because I find the snaps the easiest to use and to adjust to fit Jack and they seem to keep his toosh the driest (yes I feel his bum at diaper changes to compare the diapers--only on pee diapers of course).

Since I bought my GroBaby diapers as a "steal" on BabySteals.com I was able to sell them very easily for just under what I paid and found a 4th of July deal on FuzziBunz (25% off). By the 10th my stash was completely transformed and I have more used diapers on the way.

FuzziBunz: you can see the two rows of snaps on the right side of the blue diaper on the left.

My 20/20 hindsight opinion--take advantage of the trial programs and really try the diapers out before buying.
